Autumn 1

Talk with your child about different materials

  • Where do they come from?
  • How are they used?
  • Find different ways to change the shape of  materials e.g. stretching, bending

 Look for 2 dimensional shapes in the environment

  • Find circles on a bus
  • Find squares on house

Look for 3 dimensional shapes 

  • Find three things in the house shaped like a cube
  • Can they spot a cuboid?
  • Where would they find a sphere?

 Count with your child up to 50 and beyond.

  • Can they count forwards and backwards from any number
  • Can they count in 2’s

Handwriting

  • Practice using our style of writing with your child 

 Autumn 2

Talk with your child about different types of weather

  • What causes different types of weather?
  • How do they affect us?

Look for 3 dimensional shapes 

  • Find three things in the house shaped like a cube
  • Can they spot a cuboid?
  • Where would they find a sphere?

Count with your child up to 100 and beyond.

  • Can they count forwards and backwards from any number
  • Can they count in 2’s, 10’s and 5’s

Take your child shopping and discuss:-

  • The price of different items
  • Add 2 items together
  • Encourage your child to work out the amount of change after buying something

Handwriting

  • Continue to practice our style of writing with your child

Spring 1

Talk with your child about different environments e.g. Polar regions, deserts, jungles, seas.

  • Can you find out how creatures adapt to live there?
  • Can you find and discuss information about these environments?

Telling the time

  • Talk with your child about o’clock, 5 past, 10 past, quarter past, 20 past, 25 past and half past.
  • Encourage them to tell you the time when you are going out.

Count with your child up to 300 and beyond.

  • Can they count forwards and backwards from any number?
  • Can they count in 2’s?
  • Can they count in 5’s?
  • Can they count in 10’s?

Handwriting

  • Continue to practice our style of writing with your child.

Please help your child identify and use the displayed phonemes.

Look at the key words in the classroom and practise these with your child

 

Spring 2

Talk with your child about different toys

 

  • What they are made of
  • How do they work – push, pull, battery, mains electricity, magnetism

 

Telling the time

 

  • Talk with your child about 5 to, 10 to, quarter to, 20 to and 25 to.
  • Encourage them to tell you the time when you are going out.
  • Encourage them to look at and also use a digital clock.

 

Count with your child up to 1000 and beyond.

 

  • Can they count forwards and backwards from any number?
  • Can they count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s
  • Can they add two 2 digit numbers e.g. 10 and 15
  • Talk about halves and quarters

  • Continue to pracice our style of writing with your child

Summer 1

 

Talk with your child about under the ground

 

  • Which animals live there?
  • Who does jobs that involve working under the ground?
  • Look out for different types of rocks
  • Talk about the earth and its composition
  • Encourage your child to look at vegetables and to think about where they grow

 

Simple multiplication and division

 

  • Practice with your child the 2, 5 and 10 times table.
  • Encourage them to do simple division sums

 

Count with your child up to 1000 and beyond.

 

  • Can they count forwards and backwards from any number?
  • Can they count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s?
  • Can they add two 2 digit numbers e.g. 10 and 15?
  • Talk about halves and quarters
  • Encourage children to look on bottles to see how much they hold in mls

Summer 2

Talk with your child about Seaton

  • What does it have e.g. shops, schools
  • Talk about another place they know that is similar
  • Encourage your child to look at the different plants when you go for a walk

  • Give your child money when shopping and ask them to work out the cost and change
  • Encourage children to look on bottles to see how much they hold in mls
