Science Week 2018 - Exploration and Discovery!
Throughout school we have been very busy exploring and discovering the world around us.
Fizz Pop Science Workshop!
We took part in an 'Air Show' presented by Fizz Pop Science!
The workshop allowed us to explore the wonderful air and how it can make things move! We discovered how air can lift a super air rocket and looked at levitating balls! We also watched as the Scientist created giant smoke circles!
Each class was provided with the opportunity to participate in a workshop and each child made their own spinning helicopter. We discovered lots about air in the world around us, as well as having so much fun!
In Nursery we grew and observed cress. We discussed what plants need to grow healthily. We also made wind catchers and used them outside. We discussed why they move when it is windy!
In Reception we learned about caterpillars. We read ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and thought carefully about how caterpillars change into butterflies. We thought about healthy eating- linked to the story and looked at symmetrical patterns on the butterflies wings.
In Year 1 we went on a mini-beast hunt around the school grounds. We made a tally of how many of each mini-beast we found and we presented our findings in a graph! We also observed the weather during our Spring walk and discussed how the weather was different to what we had observed in Winter.
In Year 2 we explored animal 'poo' made from PlayDoh and discovered whether the animal was a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. We also dug in some pots of soil and grouped and classified the mini-beasts we found. We also explored which materials float and sink in water. We then grouped the materials accordingly.
