“Educating our children with the skills they need to live fullfilling lives.”

                         AUTUMN 2 NEWSLETTER   -    NOVEMBER 2018

This term is always very busy in the lead up to Christmas. This newsletter contains lots of important dates for your diary and details of forthcoming events.

We will be holding phonics talks for Nursery, Reception & Year 1 parents in order to give you more information about the way in which your child is taught phonics in our school. The talks will be held in our school hall on the following days:

Nursery & Reception Parents: Tuesday 20th November at 9.10am

Year 1 Parents: Wednesday 21st November at 9.10am

The talks should not last longer than half an hour and will give parents some ideas that could help and support their child at home. Please could we kindly ask that if at all possible parents could attend the meetings without small children or babies.

This years’ Christmas Fayre will take place on Tuesday 27th November. The school hall will be open at 4.30pm where there will be lots of stalls selling Christmas Goodies! We will be selling juice for the children and mulled wine for the adults! We will also be having a Christmas raffle. The switch on of the lights will take place at approximately 6.00pm on the staff car park, when we will be having a visit from Santa who will do a countdown to our light switch on! We will be singing lots of Christmas carols to get us in the Christmas spirit! This event has been organised for your children’s enjoyment and we hope that as many of you as possible will be able to come back to school on this night. Please bring other family members and friends – everyone is more than welcome! Please note that there will be no after school clubs on this day.

Our Christmas production this year will be ‘A King is Born’. This a fantastic event for us, and once again every child in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 will be taking part. Preparations and rehearsals are already under way!

Following on from previous years successes, our show will once again take place at The Carnegie Theatre in Workington. We will be having two performances on Thursday 6th December at 4.00pm & 6.00pm. On this day school will close for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 at 2.00pm. Further details will follow shortly.

The Nursery children will be doing their very own Christmas performance in our school hall on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th December at 10.00am. Further details regarding this will follow later in the term.

On Friday 14th December children can come to school wearing their Christmas jumpers.  Donation boxes for Save the Children will be in classrooms.

We will be having our Christmas Party & Christmas Dinner on Wednesday 19th December. On this day, children can come to school in their party clothes. We will also be having a very special visit from Santa too!

This year the teachers will not be sending Christmas cards to the children but instead will make a donation to the Special Care Baby Unit at West Cumberland Hospital.

Whilst we understand that children love to send Christmas cards to their friends we also realise this is an onerous task at a busy time of year! This year we are suggesting that children just send one card, either bought or homemade to the whole class. We will read each card and display them in classrooms. Donations made for SCBU in lieu of cards would be welcome.

Please can we once again stress the importance of staying with your child/children until the bell rings at 9.00am. This is a safeguarding issue and children must not be left by themselves before the bell has rung. We understand that it is not as easy if you have two or more children to take to their classes, but we would much rather one child is slightly late to their class, than the other child being left alone. We would very much appreciate your co-operation with this.

For the safety of all could we please once again remind everyone not to park on the school car park or the pavement at the front of the school when leaving or collecting your child. Thank you.

On Friday 16th November we will once again be supporting ‘Children in Need’. On this day children can come to school in something spotty, Pudsey Bear tops or in non-uniform. We will have donation boxes in all classrooms, so please help us to raise as much money as possible for this very worthwhile cause.

Scholastic book club catalogues will be sent home this week, this will be the last chance to order books in time for Christmas. There are some great ideas for presents and stocking fillers and don’t forget that every order we place earns commission for us to buy more classroom books!

Seaton Academy is supporting our local food bank and would very much appreciate any contributions from parents. We will have a box in our foyer which we will use to collect any food donations that we receive. The type of foods that are in short supply and that we will be collecting are: tinned tomatoes, baked beans, coffee, tea bags, tinned meat, tinned puddings, tinned fruit, biscuits, cereal bars, jam, tinned vegetables, dried pasta, pasta sauce, tinned fish & smash. Any donation, however small, will help to make a difference. Thank you for your support

School closes for the Christmas break on Friday 21st December at 1.15pm and will re-open on Monday 7th January.
