“Educating our children with the skills they need to live fulfilling lives.”

 Year 1 Learning Letter

Summer 1

This term, we are looking at non-fiction texts based on jungle animals.  We are looking at the layout and features of non-fiction texts. We are going to be reading jungle stories and we are going to write the beginning of a story.  We are using capital letters to start our sentences and full stops to end our sentences.  We are using conjunctions to extend our sentence.

In Maths, we are continuing to count forwards and backwards and counting in steps of twos, fives and tens.  We are going to be interpreting data based on their favourite jungle animal.  We are going to be adding two 2-digit numbers together using the column addition method.

We are continuing to focus on keeping safe in school.  We will be discussing what it means to be healthy.

Please continue to practise weekly spellings at home with your child and to read daily, fiction and non-fiction texts.

We are available for a chat, so if you have any concerns, questions or queries please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Spring 2

We are really enjoying seeing our friends again and we are settling back into our school routine very well and we are enjoying completing many busy jobs in our classrooms.

This term, we are describing characters from the story using adjectives and using a capital letter to start a sentence and a full stop to end a sentence.  We are trying very hard to remember to use finger spaces between our words and trying very hard to get our letters on the line.

In Maths, we are continuing to count forwards and backwards.  We are working out addition and subtraction calculations.  We are going to be telling the time- o'clock and sequencing days of the week.

We are focussing on keeping safe in school, keeping safe online and keeping safe crossing the road and also caring for our environment.

Please continue to practise weekly spellings at home with your child and to read daily, fiction and non-fiction texts.

We are available for a chat, so if you have any concerns, questions or queries please don’t hesitate to contact us.
