Year 2 Learning Letter
In Summer 1 our topic will be Bears. To begin, we will look at the History of how the Teddy Bear got his name. We will then read and explore a range of Paddington Bear stories and use these to develop our vocabulary and descriptive writing. By the end of the half term, each child will have written a Paddington Bear adventure which will consolidate their knowledge of grammar and punctuation taught to date.
We will continue to develop our knowledge of multiples of 2, 5 and 10. We will look at o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour on a clock. Please recap this as much as possible at home.
We will explore Peru. We will locate the country on a map and identify the human and physical features. We will also explore their weather, culture, religion and compare these to where we live in the UK.
We will develop our knowledge of plants during this half term and look carefully at the parts and functions of plants. We will also look in detail at some of the plants that will be found in the Amazon rainforest. This half term we will grow our own sunflowers, too.
Information will be written about all of these topics and the children will be encouraged to write captions, labels and subheadings.
In our phonic groups we will be concentrating on how to use phonemes and the reading and spelling of Year 2 common exception words. We will also be adding suffixes to words including: -ied -ier -ing -ing -ed -ed -er -est -ment -ness -ful -ly
