“Educating our children with the skills they need to live fullfilling lives.”

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

This term our chosen topic is “TOYS”. We encourage the children to learn through lots of “hands on” experiences. Learning through play and communicating with each other are excellent ways for children to learn about themselves, their friends, others and the world around them.

The SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) topic for this term is “Going for Goals” and encourages the children to become motivated learners and reflect on what they have learned and how they can improve. As usual, more detailed curriculum information is displayed on class notice boards.

We have given all children a Phonics booklet that outlines the letter names and sounds we have covered and also a list of common words that we have been learning in our daily phonic sessions. In order to be able develop as readers and writers children need to  break down words by listening for the sounds contained in them (called segmenting) AND be able to put the sounds together to make words (called blending). We are asking that you spend a few minutes with your child to support this learning by practicing this skill at home. Support from home is always appreciated and, without doubt, helps with every individual’s reading development. If anyone has not got a word list, or would like another, please let us know.

Please remember we are here to help and are always available to answer any questions that you may have.
