“Educating our children with the skills they need to live fullfilling lives.”

Welcome back to Seaton Academy, we hope that you all had a lovely summer break.

A very warm welcome to all the new children who have joined our school, we hope that you will be very happy and enjoy your time here at Seaton Academy.

Our breakfast club is open every day from 7.50am onwards at a charge of £5.00, which includes breakfast. There is no need to book in advance, just come along as and when you need it. The entrance to breakfast club is at the front of the school, via the alley way entrance to Nursery. Please ring the bell and a member of staff will let your child in. Please note payment must be made on the day.

After school clubs run every day from 3.15pm-4.15pm. If you would like to book a place, or would like more details, please contact the office. Some of the clubs are currently full, we do have waiting lists and you will be contacted once a space becomes available. There is a charge of £4.00 for all after school clubs. Payments have to be made in advance either daily, weekly, monthly or termly. Should payments fall into arrears your child may loose their place. Please note that if you pay for a club, and for some reason your child cannot attend, the money will carry over. If you sign up for a club and then your child decides that they no longer wish to go, please could you let the office know, we can then give the place to someone else. Also, if your child does not attend their chosen club for 3 consecutive weeks, we will presume they no longer wish to go and their place will be given to a child on our waiting list.

Payment for Breakfast club, After School club and Nursery lunches MUST be made in advance either on the day or in advance. (Payment can be made in advance weekly, monthly or for the term) by cheque or cash. We also accept childcare vouchers, please enquire at the office.

We will be holding ‘Open Afternoons’ on Tuesday 8th & Wednesday 9th October, from 2.15pm-3.15pm. This is for all children in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2. Parents are welcome to come on either day, and take the opportunity to visit their child’s classroom and have a look at the work they have been doing. There will also be an opportunity to have an informal chat with your child’s class teacher. Please note that this does not replace the formal parent interviews, these will still take place later in the school year.

Nursery will be holding ‘Open Mornings’ on the same dates as above, from 11.00am-12.05pm. Again, parents can attend on either date, and enjoy visiting their child and having a look around our Nursery. Parents will be able to also have an informal chat with their child’s teacher.

Geography & PHSE week will take place the week beginning 14th October. Each class will be doing their own themed activities, both indoors and outdoors.

Book week will run the week beginning 7th October and will hopefully be a really enjoyable week. Book week is a celebration of reading, we aim to establish a child’s life long love of reading.

On Friday 11th October, all the children can come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book or poem. Prizes for the best dressed will be awarded in each class!!

Tempest Photography will be in school on Tuesday 1st October to take individual school photographs. Siblings attending Seaton Academy will be photographed together as well as individually.

All children from Reception to Year 2 are provided with a free school meal. Our weekly menu’s are displayed on the notice boards around school and on our website, www.seatonacademy.co.uk. We are happy to cater for any specific dietary need, please speak to a member of staff.

The children all look very smart in their uniform, but could we please ask that all items of uniform have your child’s name in them. As you will appreciate it is extremely difficult to return any lost items that are not named. You can order uniform items at any time from our supplier Border Embroideries www.beschoolwear.co.uk and searching for Seaton Academy.

Although all children are now provided with a school meal at no cost, you may still qualify for a clothing grant. Please see the Cumbria County Council website www.cumbria.gov.uk to check if you qualify and to apply.

The new Scholastic book club catalogue is being sent home with your child. There are some fantastic offers and lots of books to choose from. Please return any orders to school by Friday 20th September.

Please remember to notify the school office throughout the year of any changes to addresses, telephone or mobile numbers, this is very important should we need to contact you. We often send texts to remind you of events etc so an up to date mobile is essential. Texts are only sent to the mobile of the first contact on your child’s record, please contact the office if you would like texts sent to more than one mobile number.

Please can we ask that children do not wear any jewellery for school except for stud earrings and a watch, this avoids valuable items getting lost or broken. Also, children are not allowed to take part in P.E. lessons if they are wearing earrings. Please make sure that your child’s earrings are removed on P.E. days. If earrings are left in, unfortunately your child will not be able to take part in the lesson with the rest of their class. Thank you for your co-operation.

If your child has long hair, please ensure that it is tied back every day for school. This is for health & safety and also to prevent the spread of head lice. This applies to both girls and boys.

For the safety of the children please could we remind parents that our staff car park should not be used when bringing or collecting children.

Mrs Banks will be holding a meeting for all Year 2 parents to discuss the compulsory SATS tests that are held during May 2020. Meetings will be held in the school hall on Monday 7th October at 9.05am & 1.30pm. We hope as many parents as possible can attend at one of these times.

The Friends of Seaton Academy would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated uniform and came along to our used uniform sale, we made a fantastic £103.74.

We are holding an autumn raffle and have some amazing prizes – raffle tickets and further information are going out in plain envelopes alongside this newsletter. We hope that people will support us with this by purchasing tickets or selling to family/friends, and by returning any unsold tickets in the envelopes provided by 27th September. There are extra tickets available in the school office.

A Bag2School clothing collection is taking place on Wednesday 25th September – bags and a letter will be sent out in book bags in mid-September. It’s a good opportunity to go through old clothes (they must be in good reusable condition, and no school uniform), whilst supporting us at the same time!

Seaton Academy closes for October half term on Friday 18th October at 3.15pm, and re-opens on Monday 28th October.
