Class Information

Mrs Broughton's Nursery is split into two classes, The Lovely Ladybirds and The Dazzling Dragonflies. The children register in different classrooms before working together as a unit.

Start of the session:

Each day, our session begins at 9:00am and finishes and 12:00pm. We kindly ask for your help to ensure that your child is at school on time.

After your child has hung up their coat, they are encouraged to find their own name from the table and drop it into the basket provided in self registration.

During the session:

The children are then registered on the carpet together after the doors have closed. They will then take part in a wide range of learning activities, either in small or large groups, adapted to their ability and needs in order to achieve.

In Nursery we have a 'free-flow' system, where the children can explore the Nursery and the different activities provided. Each area will be set up with different learning opportunities each week, related to the learning focus of the week.

The children come back together to the carpet throughout the session to take part in directed Phonics and Maths activities three times a week.

Snack:

Each day the children are provided with snack. All the children in Nursery are provided with a wide range of different fruits and a drink. The children are positively encouraged to try different fruits that are available.

On many occasions, we also encourage a circle time activity either during or after snack, to allow the opportunity for more directed learning.

Library Day:

Our library day is Wednesday. Library day allows the opportunity for children to take a book from school to share at home. We will then look at the book together in Nursery and allow them to select another book of their interests.

Could we kindly ask that you please return all books and book bags each Wednesday.

Open door policy:

In Nursery we aim to provide an 'open door policy' and encourage any parents/carers to come and speak to a member of staff in Nursery if they have any queries or questions.

If any parents/carers wish to speak with Mrs Broughton, the best times are at the start and end of every session (except Tuesday evening, which is staff meeting).
Alternatively, we can arrange a telephone appointment.

Many thanks
Mrs Broughton

Autumn 1

Autumn 2 - Once Upon A Time/Starry Night

Spring 1- Starry Night/Winter Wonderland

We explored ice and observed the changes that happens when the ice melts, focused on providing fine and gross motor activities.

Explored nocturnal animals, created owls from playdough and and created a sock puppet into a nocturnal animal!

We continuously promoted our early reading and early phonics, through exploring sounds, rhyme and explored blending spoken segmented words.
We have also explored dreams this week, discussing our dreams and then enjoyed creating a dream catcher! and briefly exploring Chinese New Year!

Spring 2 - Dangerous Dinosaurs/Puddles and Rainbows

In Spring 2, our two topics of focus were ‘Dangerous Dinosaurs’ and ‘Puddles and Rainbows’.

We have explored fossils, creating fossils from play-doh, explored a range of fiction and non-fictions books and counting out dinosaur bones.

Reagan from the Workington Wildlife Trust who came to work with us. We explored pond water, the different creatures we may find, where we may find them and their life-cycle.
We also explored a wide range of activities such as printing in play-doh, fine motor activities wrapping pipe cleaners around twigs and drawing.

For World Book Day, the friends of Seaton Academy come in to share an interactive story experience with us of the story ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’.

Summer 1 - Big Wide World and Splash

This half term we have focused on the topics ‘Big Wide World’ and ‘Splash’.

These topics have provided many memorable experiences for our children, including Children Around the World, different activities and games that children from around the world enjoy and tasting/making many different foods from different countries.

We have explored recycling and different ways we can help keep our planet clean, including litre picking and recycling activities.
We enjoyed making boats from recycling and exploring whether the materials that we had used would help it float or sink.

We have also enjoyed The La’al Project this half term. The La’al Project have been working with all of the children across school, collecting their ideas and illustrations to create a book, the children thoroughly enjoyed their visits from Bear, where they made him different dens, hiding places and explored different textures. We all received a copy of the story book once it was published.

We have begun our transition process with the children moving to Reception in September, this has involved a visit to Reception to explore their classroom, areas and a circle time activity together, tackling any concerns or worries for their next step!

This will be ongoing next half term in our run up to the Summer Holidays.

Summer 2

We have had a fun filled couple of week this half term, taking part in lots of fantastic opportunities that have been provided.

We have taken part in Forest School, Tennis with Rob our tennis coach, sports day, dressing up for England matches and the colour run!

We have come to an end of our topic this half term and begun transition up to Reception for our older children, who will be leaving us at the end of this academic year.
